On Saturday, August 16, 2025, at 5:10 p.m., the Nigerian Air Force (NAF) launched an airstrike targeting the hideout of notorious bandit leader Muhammadu Fulani, located in the Jigawa-Sawai area of Danmusa Local Government Area, Katsina State, near the Zamfara border.
The operation forced the bandits to flee, enabling around 62 abducted victims—many held captive for over a month—to escape and scatter in various directions.
The majority of the victims had been abducted from Sayaya village during a night raid on Monday, August 11, 2025, by Fulani’s gang, notorious for terrorizing Matazu, Kankia, Dutsinma, and parts of Kano State.
Of the escapees, 12 were receiving medical care at Matazu General Hospital, and 16 were at the Army Forward Operating Base (FOB) in Kaiga Malamai.
In response, the Katsina State Government—represented by Commissioner Dr. Nasir Mu’azu—deployed the NAF Quick Response Wing to Matazu and Bakori LGAs, while troops continued to monitor the area for further rescue operations. The state assured families that victims would be reunited with loved ones after completion of medical checks.
The security situation remains calm, and Governor Dikko Umaru Radda commended the efforts of the security forces, reaffirming the government's commitment to end banditry in the region.
